Maintenance tips to keep your car running smooth

Your vehicle is an investment. You want to make sure it’s running at maximum performance and keeping you safe while on the road. Below are some tips to help you keep your car in great shape.

Check to ensure lights are working

Periodically walk around your vehicle to ensure that all headlights, tail lights, brake lights and signals are in working order (you can get  friend to help you with this). Failing to do so could land you a fine, illicit the ire of other drivers or even cause you to get into an accident.

Check tire pressure and treads

Driving on tires that are uneven or worn bald can make for a bumpy ride, poor fuel economy and even put you at risk of an accident.

Get a tune up

Regular tune-ups help keep your engine running smoothly and safely. Engine tune-ups can help prevent breakdowns and extend the life of a vehicle. A well-tuned engine will help keep a vehicle operating at optimum performance levels, which is why routine tune-ups are so important.

Check your oil levels

You should be an getting oil change around every 5000 miles. In between oil change appointments it’s a good idea to keep an eye on your dipstick to see if your engine oil is low.

Check for leaks

It’s a good idea to periodically check underneath your car for any fluid leaks. Engine oil will appear as a rainbow-like slick on wet pavement. If your radiator is leaking, coolant will be lost and the engine can overheat. Fuel leaks can be very dangerous – besides wasting your hard earned gas money, they put you at risk of your vehicle catching fire. If you notice any fluid leaks its best to come in to see a qualified mechanic right away.
